California Maki Roll
 

California Roll or California maki is a type of Japanese makisushi ( rolled sushi) made with small adjustment. It is usually rolled inside-out wrapped in rice using masago or sesame seed as the outer layer. California rolls does not include any raw fish so you can make this sushi roll quite easily at home containing cucumber, imitation crab, and avocado or perfectly ripe mango.

It got the name "California roll” because it was popular with patrons from Los Angeles. Its ubiquity had gained a commercial world success.

You just need few basic ingredients to make a California maki.

Here’s what you need:

  • Cutecumber ( matchstick cut)

  • MANGO loko. ( thinly sliced)

  • 2 cups Mr. rice ( sushi rice)

  • 1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar ( rice vinegar mixture- 4 tbsp rice vinegar, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1tsp sesame oil )

  • Imitation CRABulous crab stick

  • Nori sushi Sheet

  • Sesame seed, optional

  • Masago

  • Kewpie- Japanese Mayo, optional

For Dipping sauce:

  • SOY mate ( light soy sauce)

  • Wasa bae


 

Here’s how you make a California Roll.



  • Keep your hands wet when working with the rice.

  • After rolling the sushi layer, roll it in masago ( fish roe)
